The ask. Jason at NEPA Geeks needed to mount a 52″ signage display in his office. Off-the-shelf brackets would do the job, but they’d do it anonymously — a black steel arm bolted to drywall, indistinguishable from the one in every waiting room in the county. He wanted the mount to look like it belonged to his brand.
The constraint that shaped it. He also didn’t want to commit his wall. Standard mounts mean four to eight anchors, and every one is a patch-and-repaint job the day the display moves or the office changes. The brief came down to: make it look custom, and make it reversible.
The build. A plywood French cleat mount that hangs on two screws — total. The cleat distributes load along its full length rather than concentrating it at individual anchor points, so the two-screw installation isn’t a compromise on strength. It’s rated to 250 lbs against a display under 60, roughly a 4x margin. The unit lifts off and re-hangs in seconds with no tools, so servicing or swapping the display doesn’t involve a drill.
The face is built from sound diffusion hex panels, which do two jobs at once. Visually, they give the installation texture and a geometry that carries Jason’s brand rather than disappearing into the wall. Functionally, they break up reflections off what would otherwise be a large flat hard surface in an office — a small acoustic improvement in a spot that usually makes rooms worse. Integrated LED backlighting washes the wall behind the panels in brand colors, so the screen reads as a designed fixture instead of mounted equipment.
